AGM 2020 – Committee Members and Constitution

We’re back with your AGM updates! There are two things that need your input — Committee members and a proposed change to the Constitution — followed by our appreciation for a Committee member who is stepping down.

First of all, thank you to everyone who considered joining the Edinbop Committee. We have one new person running and two current Committee members who have served for the past 2 years and are therefore up for re-election this year:

Taryn Crosbie (New nominee)

Iris (General Member)

Suzy (Treasurer)

Next up is the Edinbop Constitution. In its current iteration the Constitution refers to Edinbop’s goals and events as being related to swing dancing. We propose amending the Constitution to include references to blues dancing as well at each point that is relevant. For example—

Current version: “The society’s main aims are to: improve and promote swing dancing in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas;…”

Proposed: “The society’s main aims are to: improve and promote blues and swing dancing in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas;…”

We also propose adjusting the order of the words in the sentence below in order to increase readability.

Current version:  “Elected Committee members should not be elected Committee members (combined event committees such as ELX excluded) of other swing societies.”

Proposed: “Elected Committee members should not be elected Committee members of other blues or swing societies (combined event committees such as ELX excluded).

If you’re interested in reading the full document and proposed Constitutional Amendments, you can find them here www.edinbop.co.uk/constitution and here www.edinbop.co.uk/constitution-proposal-2020, respectively, with the proposed amendments marked in bold in the latter.

We ask that if you have any objection to the above people serving up to another 2 years on the Committee and/or to the proposed Constitutional Amendments to please get in contact via email at edinbopwebsite@gmail.com or through the Safer Spaces form (https://www.edinbop.co.uk/safer-spaces, possibility of anonymity) by the 22nd of November.

Finally, we will miss Étienne who has also been part of the Committee for the past 2 years and is stepping down. We especially thank him for the great work he’s done for Edinbop Balboa and his general enthusiasm and effort in improving Edinbop events.
